I got my first donation the other day from my husband, so it finally said something on my page under the amount raised section. Then, today, I got a check from my Grandpa Olson for a donation to my ride! For those of you that don't know, I'm riding in honor of Gpa Olson, who has stage IV prostate cancer. It was so sweet of him to donate. Thanks Gpa!!!! I also talked to my wonderful godmother who said she and my godfather would also be sending a donation. I've sent out tons of e-mails and mentioned it to almost everyone I know. I'm going to be sending letters to local businesses to try and get some sponsors. Today was a good start to reaching my goal.
I finally was able to get the items I needed to ride at night (headlight, tail light, and reflective stickers for my helmet), so hopefully I'll be able to dodge the heat! When I was at the bike store getting the lights, I got to talking with the sales guy about how he's done three Livestrong Challenges. He gave me some really great pointers on things I'm going to need and what I really won't need for the race. He was very encouraging. Also, this evening, I got some encouragement from a good friend of mine, James. He rides also, and said something so simple to me, but it really is resonating. He said "when you feel like you can't go any further, just keep going. You'll make it." I am really starting to feel like this isn't so out of reach after all.
Today, my order from LAF came in, so I have my new yellow bracelet and a couple other things to wear while I'm riding. Very exciting stuff.
